Writer

At school, I was by no means a lover of languages. On the contrary, I didn’t like language classes, didn’t enjoy grammar and dreaded learning vocabulary. I simply wasn’t born with the skills which make it easy to learn new languages. Who would back then have thought, that my English would become the primary language for me to write in? Certainly not my English teachers.

Writing is something I have always enjoyed. For many years I have been a contributor and editor for newsletters and staff magazines for sport clubs and companies. My writing skills were polished, working with some of the most critical experts, who didn’t hesitate to challenge me and to push me beyond my limits.

Walking on the Way of Saint James to Santiago de Compostela in 2007, I joked that I would write a book about the walk. The need to integrate the experiences indeed, and to my surprise, resulted in the writing of my first book in Dutch: Mijn Camino. As the experiences on the Way of St. James were related to so many aspects of me and my life, including spirituality, it took me till 2011 before I was ready for the book to be published. It took another ten years till I found the time and courage to translate it into English.

Once I had surrendered to My Camino being available around the world,  Itchy Feet / Jubeltenen (Dutch) - covering experiences of my hikes in different parts of the world soon followed.

The World at my Feet / De Wereld aan mijn Voeten (Dutch) offered me the chance to share a collection of my most precious travel stories.

In addition to my own publications, I was featured in Bedrijf van een Wereldwijf (Company of a World Woman) and contributed articles about Mali and Guinea to the book Niet Alledaagse Bestemmingen.

I translated the books Healing with Hathors and Heaven with Hathors, channeled by the Dutch writer Lia-Ariël Hermans into English.

Here, I can write musings and share stories about my life as a travel agent in Mali, about hiking and travel adventures and about Egypt.

Welcome and enjoy!
